December 18 Meeting Notes

President Dave Taylor presided over a business meeting (see separate minutes). Newly elected Sergeant-at-Arms Aloke Gupta was Toastmaster for the holiday-themed meeting. Besides the 15 members, we had three guests. Everyone enjoyed the holiday treats brought by Ted and others.

Announcements
Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) will be held Saturday January 9 in Wilsonville. This counts as officer training for club officers, but anyone is welcome to attend. Both Jim and our Area Governor Ted encourage us to go.

We will take a few weeks off for the holidays. The next meeting will be January 8. Happy Holidays!

Speeches
Robyn Murphy gave a speech re-introducing herself to the club and discussing her experiences in Toastmasters over 20 years. She had it evaluated as an Icebreaker.

Ray Lin was working on his 4th speech, focusing on How To Say It. In "A Lovely Peninsula," he told us about the town and area in China he comes from.

Danny Perry gave a speech called "Christmas: A Holiday Gone Mad." He talked about some other things to focus on at Christmas, rather than gifts. He was working on CC speech #3, Get to the Point.

Yue's table topics asked us to pretend we were giving the gift of Toastmasters membership to a family member.

December 18 Business Meeting Minutes

I. Call to order
President Dave Taylor called to order the regular meeting of the Oregon State Toastmasters at 12:02 on December 18, 2009, in Room 119 of the Crop Science Building.

II. Attendance
Secretary Kris Hauser took attendance. 14 members out of 24 active members were present, making a quorum.

III. Approval of minutes from last meeting
Secretary Kris Hauser distributed the minutes from the last meeting via e-mail prior to the meeting.

IV. Committee reports
There were no reports.

V. Old business
There was no old business.

VI. New business
A. President Dave Taylor informed the club that Carl Riggle had requested to become an inactive member. He was so designated without objection.
B. There was a special election to fill the vacant Sergeant-at-Arms officer position. Kris Hauser nominated Aloke Gupta. Jim Barbour seconded. There were no other nominations. Aloke was elected.

VII. Adjournment
President Dave Taylor adjourned the business meeting.

December 11, 2009 Meeting Notes

Kris was the Toastmaster for meeting that got us out of the cold outside. 14 members attended, plus two guests.

Announcements
A Speechcraft event will be held in Junction City, starting January 21. An 8 week Toastmasters course on Thursdays from 7am to 8:30 am to give non-Toastmasters a chance to try the Toastmasters program. If you know folks in the Junction City area, please pass along. Contact Jim with questions.

At the next business meeting, we will have a special election to fill the Sergeant-at-Arms officer position. Come ready to nominate yourself or someone else!

Speeches
Bianca worked on Vocal Variety for speech #6 in the CC manual. She told us about "Christmastime in Germany."

Glen gave us "A Brief Introduction to the History & Structure of Toastmasters International." He was evaluated for CC speech #7, Research Your Topic.

Matt gave his second speech in the CC manual, working on organization. In "A Passion of Mine," he told us about sea kayaking.

Robyn's Table Topics were about Christmas in New Zealand and how it would be different from Corvallis because it is summer.

December 4, 2009 Meeting Notes

Business
The scheduled business meeting was immediately adjourned because we did not have a quorum. Eleven members were present while thirteen are needed to conduct business. We did have four guests.

Announcements
Dave announced that Carl has requested to become an inactive member. Therefore, we will need a new Sergeant-at-Arms. If you are interested in this officer position, please contact Dave.

Speeches
Rachel worked on the "Uplift the Spirit" project from the advanced Specialty Speeches manual. In her speech, called "The B Word," she told us about the many benefits of breast feeding for babies, mothers, and society.

Dave worked on the "Speaking Under Fire" project from the advanced Public Relations manual. For his speech, the audience was asked to pretend to be members of a public employees union and Dave, as a leader, tried to convince us to accept a proposal from management to take extra unpaid leave.

Aloke's table topics dealt with holiday related items like snow angels, tin soldiers, and eggnog.

TLI stands for TOASTMASTERS LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
Mark your calendar now for Saturday, January 9th from 9am-Noon.
District 7 will be hosting TLI at Inza Wood Middle School in Wilsonville.
Who should be there?
-Club Officers -Your attendance gives your club credit towards your club's Distinguished Club Program (DCP).

-Anyone interested in Leadership or Personal Development - There will be some fabulous sessions for leadership and personal development.

-Anyone who wants to network with other people - Get outside your club and meet and mingle with all the wonderful people in District 7!

-Anyone who wants to have fun! - TLI will host some fun and unique sessions in order to make you laugh and have fun while learning leadership!
